A Bit of a Drive

Introduction

Scenic car trips are something I quite enjoy, especially when shared with friends. A couple of days ago, two of my best friends from high school agreed to a reunion day trip to Mount Cook and back. We headed there via Timaru (where my sense of direction caused us to get lost and start heading in the wrong direction), then returned through the Waitaki Valley, coming back home via Oamaru (where I managed to get us lost again). During 14 hours of heading in the right and wrong direction, some photos were taken, ten of which are below.

The historic church at Lake Tekapo. I have no idea why there is a seagull on the church, let alone a seagull so far inland. Olympus OM-D E-M5 with Olympus 12-40 mm f/2.8 PRO. 1/1250 s, f/5.6, ISO 200.

 A Sidenote

Since I hadn’t been to Mount Cook for more than ten years, I’d forgotten a lot of the places on the road up which I would enjoy photographing. Since I have re-scouted them all on this trip, I will be returning there at some stage next year (likely in the springtime) – expect a far bigger photo post when that happens.
